Acupuncture forms part of traditional Chinese medicine. It has over 3000 years of history. The Chinese use it as a complete medical system, helping to ease acute and persistent problems.

TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) views the body as a system of channels continuously circulating Qi (Chi), vital energy, which can be accessed via certain points on the channels. Treatment by needling is a process of enhancing or reducing the flow of Qi to essential organs.

Western scientific belief is that the needles cause nerves to release endorphins which are the bodies natural analgesics (pain killers). Either way acupuncture works as a great adjunct, where necessary, to osteopathic medicine.

The insertion of needles is relatively painless. It is entirely normal for there to be a temporary feeling of aching, heaviness or numbness.

All needles are made of sterilised disposable stainless steel or sliver and are used only once.
